One of Amsterdam's most interesting and appealing museums The Amsterdam Historic Museum is centrally located just off The Spui, and offers a fantastic insight into the development of this flamboyant city. Situated since 1975 in what was formally the Amsterdam Orphanage, The Amsterdam Historic Museum shows the city and the lives of it's residents over the centuries through displays of costume, objects, photos, and audio video presentations. They have an extensive library for those who wish to research in depth the history of Amsterdam, and a variety of museum tours to suit various requirements.
There's also a cafe serving reasonably priced, tasty food and drinks where one can take a break.
